Total Resident Casualty Reaches 70 During 13 Days of Fighting in Lashio

The fighting between the Terror Military Council and the Alliance Troops intensified in Lashio, Northern Shan State during the last 13 days, and 29 locals including children and monks were killed and 37 people were injured due to the explosion of artillery shells, according to the documentation of Ta’ang Women’s Organization.

During the 13 days from July 3 to July 15, the Terror Military Council troops and alliance troops of the Kokang Army were fighting fiercely in many areas outside Lashio. As artillery shells and rocket launchers dropped and exploded in Wards in the town and villages, many houses were hit and thousands of locals left the town waving white flags.

A resident of Lashio told Ta’ang Women’s Organization, “As you know in the city, artillery shells are exploding everywhere and casualties every day. Shells were dropped at Nam Kyan village and one woman was killed. On July 10, a child and two adults were killed when an artillery shell fell at the railway station, and about 10 people were injured. On the 11, even a Christian pastor died in Ward number 1. The weapon fell on his house and hit him. At Nampachi an artillery shell dropped on a house, and 3 more people were killed.”

In addition, on July 12 and 13, when artillery shells/ rocket launchers dropped and exploded near the bridge and Ho Pate Village, one local was killed and 5 injured.

Another local who knows the incident said, “A shell dropped near AD bridge and 5 street stall sellers were hit by shrapnel and injured. As far as I know, one man was killed near Ho Pate Village. We could stay peacefully, we needed to listen to the sounds of heavy weaponry. We continuously heard shootings.”

Similarly, artillery shells exploded near Thathana 2500 Monastery and Nay Chi School in Ward number 10. Ta’ang Women Organizations is still investigating on the details of damages as it is difficult to get detail list of houses, religious buildings and schools.

From (Today) July 15 to 18, as there will be a meeting of the Chinese Communist Party, the Three Brotherhood Alliance will cease fire for four days, but they said they would defend themselves if there is a situation of confrontation.
