Kyaukgu Locals Flee from Fighting Between the Terror Military Council and DPLA

Local residents had to flee to nearby areas as fighting broke out between Danu People’s Liberation Army (DPLA) and the Terror Military Council at Kyaukgu village, Lawksawk Township, Southern Shan State, according to the reports.

A local man told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization, “Not many people were left in Kyaukgu. I heard that one man was injured today. He went to Kyaukgu to buy some food.”

The fighting started on December 9 and continued until now (January 14) and some shops in the village were burnt and a civilian was injured hit by artillery shrapnel.

A local woman said, “Many people have fled the war every day. But I can’t say how many. Some went to stay at their farms, while others were scattered, sheltering at their relatives’ homes. The phone lines at Kyaukgu village have been cut off, so we can’t get any news”.

The intense fighting continues in Kyaukgu until now. Because the phone and internet lines were cut off, the Ta’ang Women’s Organization is still investigating the details of damages and casualties due to fighting.
