Airstrike in Kyaukme Kills Two Locals, Injures Three

An airstrike by the terror military council’s forces on Ward 7 of Kyaukme Township in northern Shan State, an area controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army, killed two locals and injured three others.

The incident occurred at 2:00 PM on January 27, 2025. The casualties included one local man and one woman killed, and two women and one man injured.

The father of the deceased Maung Myo Min Htwe said, “Around 2 p.m., the bomb fell on the back of the house, on the west side of the kitchen. Only one bomb was found, but the entire kitchen was gone. At that time, three people were hit. Myo Min Htwe’s body was only found later; it wasn’t immediately visible. The surrounding houses were also destroyed. The other girl died. The [third] person died the next morning. The bomb might be 300 pounds-bomb. I only heard one sound. But others said there were two bombs. The children were playing in the house before the bomb dropped. I was calling the children to eat. After the bomb was dropped suddenly, I couldn’t hear the children’s voices. They didn’t respond either.”

“I was extremely worried. The plane was circling. Dust was rising everywhere. Not very soon I heard that they said they were there. When I rushed in, the children were hiding under the seats in the house. I pulled the children out, and they were screaming. ‘I am afraid, I am afraid’. The children were not hit. After the bomb fell, I first saw Ma Hnin Si. I didn’t know if she was dead. Her little hand was still shaking. I called someone and touched her. I ran back into the house and couldn’t find my brother’s shoes. When I looked back, everything was gone.”

“The bomb shelter also collapsed. Some of the nearby houses were not heavily hit, but according to information from the Mya Mala Guest House and Daw Than Nu’s house, their attics had all collapsed. Our area—the city hall, and the mother and child care indoor playground—were completely blown away. All the doors were blown away. Our house was totallydestroyed. The nearby company was also blown away. The area was hit twice. The One Love Hotel was also struck,” he also said.

The condition of Ma Hnin Si, who was injured by an airstrike bombing, was told by her father in law. “She was injured on her hand. Her calf and thigh got holes. The Shrapnel had to be removed. The first time she visited at Lashio, she was treated for free. We need to pay all the expenses for the second visit. It cost about 150 laks. I thought my grandchild would also be hurt. But, he was blown away and nothing happened to him.”

It was also learned that 18-year-old Ma Than Than Htwe, who was only slightly injured initially, died the day after being hit by the bomb.

A witness described her struggle: “Ma Than Than Htwe was slightly hit in the hand and sustained an injury to her buttocks. At first, she said she would be better after taking medicine, so she didn’t go to Lashio. However, at night, the poison [from the injury/bomb] spread, and she could not urinate. The internal bleeding [poison gas hit the pubic areaseverely. Only blood was flowing. Since the evening, doctors had scheduled a visit at 9 a.m. the next morning to check her injuries and send her to the hospital if necessary. She died at around 6 a.m. She was hit by a combination of iron shrapnel and fragments from the bomb. These fragments were beside her when I went to check.”

In the same region, on February 25, at around 2 p.m., the terror military council carried out an airstrike on Kyaukme Public Hospital without any fighting, killing two CDM nurses and one patient, and injuring more than 20 health workers and patients.
