MNDAA drone strikes damage monastery of Mang Htam Village in Kutkai; 2 civilians killed, 4 injured
Two civilians were killed and four others injured during clashes between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA) in Mang Htam village, Kutkai Township, northern Shan State. It is reported that an MNDAA drone strike targeted the village monastery, causing significant damage.
The incident occurred at approximately 10:00 a.m. on March 15, 2026, when a drone-dropped bomb hit the monastery in Mang Htam village, located in the Inn Mein Hokyant village tract. The strike took place while civilians were attempting to flee the premises, resulting in extensive damage to the monastery buildings.
A local resident told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization, “A total of six people were hit—four were injured and two were killed. The victims include children and women. Ten of the monastery’s buildings were destroyed; in fact, the entire school facility was ruined.”
The deceased have been identified as 5-year-old Lway Ee Moe Kham and 48-year-old Ya Lway. Those injured in the shelling include 9-year-old Lwe Ee Moe, 5-year-old Lwe Am, 50-year-old Ma Aye Htay, and 47-year-old Ma Oun.
The resident added that the monastery’s main building, chapel, religious school, kitchen, meditation hall, restrooms, generator room, Thingyan pavilion, and the temple were all damaged. Funding is urgently needed for repairs to these structures, as well as for the medical expenses of the injured victims.
