MNDAA Kills Chief of Mangpin Village Without Provocation, Offers Only 3,000,000 Kyats in Compensation
The village chief of Manpin Village, Panku Village Tract, Kutkai Township, Northern Shan State, was shot dead by theKokang Army, Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA). According to a local resident familiar with the incident, the group provided only 3,000,000 Kyats as compensation to the victim’s family.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 PM on March 17, when 37-year-old U Naing Kain, the village chief of Manpin, was fatally shot by MNDAA troops without any apparent reason.
A villager who witnessed the event told TWO, “That day, U Naing Kain was visiting another house. When the MNDAA troops entered the village, he was on his way back home. He was about to check back his house. As he was walking, the troops shot him dead.”
The source added that the MNDAA only paid 300,000 Kyats as compensation for the killing.
“They didn’t provide any explanation; they simply told the family to collect the 3,000,000 Kyats as compensation. They didn’t even clarify why they had shot him,” the resident said.
In a similar incident on March 14, at around 2:00 PM in Ward 4 of Nampheka Village, another local identified as Ko Naing Htun was also shot dead by the MNDAA without reason. His body was reportedly burned by the troops instead of being returned to his family.
