Over 1,000 villagers evicted from their villages for no reason need help
The terror military council has reportedly expelled all the villagers from the Loi Hawng Village, Kyaukgu Village Tract, Intaw Sub-township, Lawksawk Township in southern Shan State, and made the village a military base.
On June 8, the military council entered the Loi Hawng village, which has about 250 households, and ordered all the villagers to gather at the village monastery at gunpoint.
“They came in and shot the guns. Ask all the villagers at the monastery. All the people, including children and the elderly, had to go. Nobody was allowed to be left behind in the village. People had to stay there for 3 days. No one was allowed to go back home. After three days, all the villagers, including the monks, were expelled from the village. They were not allowed to take any belongings with them,” said a man who knows about the incident.
The terror military council troops not only expelled the villagers from the village but also made a military base and took all the valuables of the villagers, including belongings and gold. The houses were also searched, and they were chaotic.
“When they arrived home, they had already looted all their belongings, including the tractors and gold, and the paddy seeds were thrown in the house. And, the corn seeds and other goods they had put up for sale in the shop were taken, and nothing was given back. Only a few could get back some of their belongings. As they were expelled from the village while they were in the monastery, they could not take any belongings with them. Now, one elderly person was left behind in the village. He was sick. I don’t know whether he had died or not,” a man with knowledge of the incident told the Ta’ang Women’s Association.
The villagers of Loi Hawng have sown in nearby villages and fields to this day, and it has been learned that 250 displaced households and over 1,000 people are in need of assistance.
Fighting has started in Kyaukgu village tract in southern Shan State since December 9, 2024, between the Danu People’s Liberation Army (DPLA) and the Terror Military Council. The villagers first fled the area in January 2025, and 12 people were injured and 4 were killed due to aerial bombardment and heavy weapons fire in the Kyaukgu area.
The Kyaukgu-Intaw route in Lawksawk Township, southern Shan State, is the main route connecting Taung Kham area in Naungkhio Township, where the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) has been conducting a fierce offensive for almost a year, with southern Shan State, and is also a key route for the Terror Military Council to send reinforcements to Naungkhio Township in northern Shan State.
