Three Locals killed, 6 Seriously Injured in Fierce Fighting in Mongmit Where Phone Lines are Cut Off

The fighting between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the Terror Miliary Council started to break out in Mongmit Township, Northern Shan State, at the end of June. 

During the battle, portable launchers, artillery shelling, and aerial bombardment caused explosions in Mongmit and nearby villages, injuring and killing local residents, including children and monks, according to local resident who was in Mongmit Township.

“Houses were hit and damaged, but I don’t know how many. Then, Thayettaw Monastery was also hit, and many houses have been hit. One monk from the monastery had passed away. In Shwezarli village, although I didn’t go that fark nobody went to see. Many people were injured. We couldn’t enter the town. Or collect the dead bodies. Yesterday, they were firing artillery shells. Now, a plane is flying over.”  The resident reported.

On the evening of July 6, an unknown man was killed instantly when a shrapnel from an artillery shell on struck his head.

On the same day, around 1:00 pm, an artillery shell fired by the Terror Military Council dropped and exploded in Lal Gyi Village, seriously injuring three people: 61-year-old U Tun, who was hit on the hand, stomach, and two fingers on his left hand; 25-year-old Ko Aung Kyaw Myint, who was hit on the stomach and left hand; and 57-year-old Daw Saw Khin, who was injured on her left leg and head.

At around 10 pm on July 8, the Terror Military Council dropped bombs from a jet fighter in North Ward, Mogok, and 86 years old elderly woman, Daw Mya Khin, was hit by shrapnel on her left buttock and was seriously injured. The Ta’ang Army has been providing medical treatment for her.

On July 9, in Nam Kham Int @ Shwe Taung Oo Ward, a child was killed and a woman and another child were injured when the Terror Military Council fired artillery shells. Additionally, a monk was killed when an artillery shell dropped and exploded in the Thayettaw Monastery. 

Since January 2024, fighting between the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) and the Terror Military Council has been ongoing in Mongmit Township. Phone and internet lines have been cut, making it difficult to communicate with locals, the casualties might be higher than currently recorded.
