Local Man Seriously Injured After Hitting Unexploded Ordnance in Nawnghkio

A local man was severely injured after hitting unexploded ordnance in northern Shan State’s Nawnghkio Township, an area recently recaptured by the Myanmar military junta.

On the afternoon of June 23, around 1:00 PM, Maung Min Thit Oo, a resident of Nyan Taw Village, was clearing his paddy field when he hit the unexploded munition, causing it to detonate.

“He was working alone on the farm. People nearby heard the explosion and went to check him. An emergency response team then transported him through the village to the hospital,” a local woman said.

She added that the farmland is located about an hour’s drive from Nyan Taw Village and was a former battleground during Operation 1027.
