The victim, U Maung U, said, “A motorcycle was stopped on the road above a house. A bag was hanging on the motorbike. I went and used a lighter in the beg. I used the lighter and left it there. I didn’t even go inside the house. While I was going forward, four soldiers followed me from behind. They arrested me and tied me to a tree. The first one hit with his gun from behind. The second one cut my right hand with a knife. They said they should cut me to death as I am Ta’ang. They tied me for about two hours. Then, the third one stepped on my chest with his foot, causing me pain in my chest. The last one hit me with his fist, asking me why am I looking at him.”
The Kachin soldiers accused Ko Maung Oo as a thief and cut his right hand with a knife as well as hit his head in an inhumane manner. So he was seriously injured, and was sent to a hospital by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) troops for medical treatment.
“They asked me which group I am from. What did I steal? I told them I didn’t take anything and I didn’t belong to any group. But, they did not accept what I said. Around there were Ta’ang soldiers. I asked them to come. When the Kachin soldiers saw Ta’ang soldiers coming, they told me to wash the wound before the Ta’ang soldiers saw it. It could not be washed clean as the wound was big. When the Ta’ang soldiers came, they took me to get medical treatment,” the victim said.
