A Mong Yaw Local Man Killed After Beating by MNDAA troops
A local man from Mong Lin village, Nam Maw village tract, Mong Yaw township, Lashio District, in northern Shan State, was dead after beaten by the troops from Kokang armed group (MNDAA), according to a man who knows the incident told Ta’ang Women’s Organization.
In the incident, 25-year-old Mai Aik Man was arrested at 7 p.m. on April 18, by Kokang Army (MNDAA) troops led by U Laung Say in Jayan village, in connection with the illegal sale of buffalo.
A local from Mong Yaw said, “About 2 months ago, the buffalo owner Daw Kyu Mein brought a buffalo to his (Aik Man) house and handed it over. As the buffalo did not look good, she would exchange it for a beautiful one. If not, she would sell it and buy a new one. Aik Man, a buffalo trader, sold the buffalo about a month after she handed it over and still hasn’t bought a new one. He had not informed her about this. That night, the buffalo owner came to the house to look for him (Mai Aik Man) who had not returned yet. On his way back, he met her in the middle of the village. The buffalo owner told him that she had a job and that he would earn about 70,000 kyats a day. If he wanted to work, he would meet her at the shop and would tell him about the job. The old woman lied to Mai Aik Man by saying that they would sit and drink beer at the shop. But when he got to the beer shop, Kokang soldiers came and handcuffed and arrested him.”
A soldier from Kogang MNDAA troops came to the family of Mai Aik Man on April 19 around 7:00 am, and told them that Mai Aik Man had passed away.
“One day after they took him, they came to inform the family that he was dead. When his father went there, U Laung Say said they didn’t do anything to him. But, he observed that there were beating marks on his body,” the local man continued.
Although Daw Kyu Mein had asked Mai Aik Man to sell her buffalo since February, she did not take any responsibility for the case when Mai Aik Man was unfairly killed.
U Laung Say said he will get permission from the responsible person from the organization when officers from the Ta’ang National Liberation Army, together with village elders to solve the case about the death of Mai Aik Man on April 22. But, until now, there has not been any response yet, a man who knows about the incident said.
