Kwan Salan Village Monastery in Mong Ngao Township Directly Bombed, Almost Entire School Building Destroyed, a Child Killed

Today on August 23, at 3:30 p.m., the Kwan Salan Village Monastery in Kyaukme Township was attacked by the Terror Military Council without any fighting.

The Terror Military Council intentionally targeted the Kwan Salan Village Monastery in Mong Ngao Township (Sub-district) of Kyaukme District and bombed it with airstrikes, damaging the monastery building, the Dhamma Hall, and many other buildings, according to local residents.

A Kwan Salan Village official said, “A child was killed, and the monastery’s abbot was hit and injured. We are still doing the census, but many more were hit, so the census data are mixed and confusing, and houses were also hit.”

The bombing killed 12-year-old Mai Akkar Phyo on the spot, and the Ta’ang Women’s Organization will continue to investigate and provide information on the injured.

A Child Killed, 7 Monks and Others Injured in Bombing Attack on Kwan Salan Village, Mong Ngao Township

At 3:30 pm today on August 23, a bomb attack on a monastery in Kwan Salan Village, Kyaukme Township injured 3 monks, including a novice, and 4 civilians, and killed 1 child, according to villagers.

12-year-old Mai Akkar Phyo was hit by shrapnel from a shell and died on the spot.

The injured are Ashin Kannaka, 52, who suffered a chest wound, Ashin Arlawka, 67, a head wound, and 10-year-old monk Ashin Santima, who suffered facial injuries.

In addition, villagers Mai Aung Kyaw Hlaing, 9, was hit in the hand, Lway Htet Htet Oo, 13, was hit in the right shoulder, Lway Ohn Yin, 20, was hit in the right hand, and Mai Chiu Zaar, 37, suffered facial injuries.

The bombing also destroyed 10 civilian homes, the village library, the village clinic, as well as a monasterybuilding, the Dhama hall, the almshouse, the Thain and the zara.

Besides the 5 monastery halls, 10 homes were damaged. These were the homes of Ta Aik Swe, Daw Ma Aye, Daw In Kham, U Kyaw Hla, U Aik Aye, Daw Shwe Nyo, U San Ba, U Maung Sein, U Hla Htun and U Paw Hla Swe.
