TwoLocals Seriously Injured After Tripwiremine Explosion in Lashio Need Assistance for Medical Treatment

A tripwire mine explosion in Khite Twe village, Mann Pwe village tract, Lashio township, northern Shan State, left two locals, including a child, seriously injured, according to a family member of a victim. 

On April 16, at around 4 pm, U Aik Lu, a 30-year-old intellectually disabled man, and Maung Aik Law, a 14-year-old boy, were hit by a tripwire mine near their buffalo herd near their village.

“Nobody goes there because they are afraid there are mines. Their buffalo went down that way. They were driving the buffalo and hit the mine. Both of them were injured. One is a 14-year-old child, and the child is poor. They also need help with medical treatment,” U Aik Lu’s mother told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO).

As a result of the mine explosion, U Aik Lu suffered a fractured left leg, while Mai Aik Law suffered serious injuries to both thighs. Both were taken to Lashio Hospital and are receiving medical treatment.

The injured Mai Aik Law lives with his grandmother, who is without parents, and his family is struggling to make ends meet and is in urgent need of assistance to cover medical expenses.
