A man lost his leg after stepping on a landmine on the afternoon of October 4 at Yadana Theingyi Village in the Doe Pin Tract of Nawngkhio Township, a newly retaken territory by the Terror Military Council, while he was returning home after working on his farm.
The victim’s daughter told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO): “We had planted paddy in the field, so we tied plastic rope around it to keep birds out. Nothing happened during the trip to the farm. He stepped on the mine on the way home, and it took about 15 minutes for the neighbors to find him after he tried to run back and called for help.”
The injured man, 67-year-old U Aik Swan Htan, is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital. His right leg was amputated below the knee, and he also suffered bruises on his left knee and injuries to his right hand.
The daughter stated that it is not known which armed group planted the landmine, but she confirmed that the location of the explosion is a daily-used public road leading to the mountains.
