Man Seriously Injured by Landmine While Urinating in Nawngkhio Forest

October 20, 2025

On October 17, at around 3 p.m. in Magyiyay village in Naung Cho Township, an area newly retaken by the Terror Military Council, a man stepped on a landmine while urinating in the forest, which reportedly severed his right leg below the thigh.

The victim’s son told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO): “He was returning to take back a buffalo when he stepped on the mine while urinating in the forest. It was not far from our village. When the villagers heard a sound, wewent to investigate. The road was through the forest, so it took longer.”

The victim, 63-year-old U San Maung, suffered a severed right leg at the thigh and a bruise to his left leg. He is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital.

U San Maung’s injured family had only returned to Nawngkhio Township after fleeing the conflict for a month when the explosion occurred.

The son added that he could not say exactly what type of weapon dropped and exploded in the house where they currently live, but estimated that about 10 bombs had exploded.
