NamKham Explosion Toll Rises to 55; Rescue Efforts Continue
The death toll from a massive explosion in Kaung Tat village, Nam Kham Township, has risen to 55, while more than 80 others remain injured, according to healthcare workers and rescue teams on the ground.
The blast, which occurred after midnight yesterday at around 12:30 a.m., claimed the lives of 30 men and 25 women, including several children.
Search and rescue operations to extricate individuals trapped beneath the rubble continued late into Sunday evening, with efforts expected to persist through today.
Those who sustained critical injuries are currently receiving emergency medical treatment at Nam Kham Hospital.
The Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) issued a statement confirming that the warehouse where the blast occurred was storing industrial-grade explosives used for quarrying operations by the group’s economic department.
The TNLA further stated that emergency rescue and relief operations are actively underway for those affected, adding that they are collaborating with relevant departments to provide immediate healthcare and long-term rehabilitation as quickly as possible.
