Local man seriously injured to both his legs in a landmine blast in Naungkhio

A local man from Panhat Ward, Naungkhio Township—an area under the control of the Military Council in Northern Shan State—sustained severe injuries to both legs after stepping on a landmine.

The incident occurred at 9:00 AM on November 15, 2025. The victim was on his way to a masonry job between Taung Shay and Panhat villages when he triggered the device.

“I had no idea there was a mine while I was heading to work. It went off near the Duhtawaddy River close to Taung Shay village,” the victim recalled. “Both of my legs were injured, and my left foot had to be amputated at the left thigh. I also sustained injuries to my left thigh and ankle. The wounds haven’t healed yet, and I am still undergoing medical treatment.”

The victim, identified as 42-year-old U Tin Oo, is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital. According to victim, his family is struggling to cover the rising medical costs.
