A Local Man from Hsipaw Injured by a Landmine Needs Help for Medical Treatment
A local man who was injured at the old military base of Battalion 504 of the Terror Military Council in Hsipaw Township, which is currently under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Front, needs help for medical treatment, according to a relative.
On January 22 at around 8:00 pm, while the man was searching for his chickens near the abandoned base of Battalion 504, he accidentally stepped on a landmine.
A relative said, “When I asked him, he said he was hit at the military base. While looking for chickens at night, his hand accidentally touched the landmine. When it exploded, he was injured. His injuries were serious. His left pointing finger and thumb were cut off. A piece of shrapnel entered his eyes, and both of his eyes were destroyed.”
The injured man is a 34-year-old man from Mangkaung village, U Sai Li. As his injuries were serious and doctors gave him an appointment, but due to family hardships, he could not go to the appointment, and he couldn’t get medical treatment yet.
“Around the time when he was hit by shrapnel, he went to the hospital once. As he faced a shortage of money, only his left eye was operated on and removed. Now, he has the left eye. Doctors asked him to come to the hospital. But his family was poor, and he could not go. If that shrapnel was not taken out, it would be rotten and it would damage the nerves and brain. Now, he has lost both of his eyes and he cannot do anything. They are now very difficult. When the country becomes peaceful, he said he would like to take out the shrapnel. He also wants his eyes to be treated so that he can see again. His mother said that she is old and wants to take out her eyes to put in her son.”
Sai Li used to work for his 6 family members. After the mine injury, the lives of their family were more difficult than before.
