A Man Seriously Injured by a Landmine While Cutting Sugarcane in Nam Kham

A man was seriously injured when he cut with a knife on a landmine at around 3pm on February 5, 2025, while cutting sugarcane in Nawng Tane village, Nam Kham Township, in Northern Shan State, which is controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army.

His son said, “My father went to cut sugarcane at Nawng Tane Village. A landmine exploded, injuring his face, head and stomach. The wound is deep because a piece of shrapnel entered into the stomach. He had to get operated yesterday. Now, he is in intensive care unit.” 

The local man who was injured by the landmine is Sai Kyin Maung (61 years-old), a resident from Ho Sai village, Nam Kham Township. The location where he got injured was a former military base of the Shan State Progressive Party (SSPP). 

In a similar incident, on January 27, U Thein Zaw Htay was also killed when he stepped on a landmine while cutting sugarcane at the site on the way to 105-mile of Mong Yu in Muse Township, which resulted in his left leg had to be amputated.
