A Local Seriously Injured in Hsipaw after Stepping on a Landmine
A local man in the Hsipaw Township, Ta’ang-controlled area in northern Shan State stepped on a landmine and sustained serious injuries to both legs.
At around 6 pm on May 8, 31-year-old U Aik Kyaw was walking on the side of the road near the former military base of the Light Infantry Battalion 503 of the Terror Military Council when he stepped on a landmine.
The victim said, “I went to ask for a debt from a friend. I wanted to go to pee, and I went to the side of the road. I stepped on a landmine while walking. It was near LIB 503. I was injured in both legs. My left leg was amputated. My right leg was broken. I will have to be in the hospital for a long time. The doctors have not said anything yet. I want to get a prosthetic leg and a crutch if possible.”
U Aik Kyaw, who stepped on the landmine and was injured, is a resident of Konsanleik Village in Hsipaw Township and is of the Chinese and Ta’ang ethnic mixed origin. In addition, due to family difficulties, he is having difficulty paying for his medical expenses. He is still receiving treatment at Namtu Hospital.
