A Man from Namkham Loses Leg after Stepping on a Landmine While Collecting Mushrooms

A local man in Namkham Township, Northern Shan State, lost his leg after stepping on a landmine, a resident said.

At around 8 am on May 29, 38-year-old U Htun Hla from Kaung Waing Village, Namkham Township, stepped on the landmine while he was going to close the coal mine.

“He was going to bake charcoal in Sal Lant village. When he went to close the coal mine, he found a mushroom and stepped on it while I was collecting mushrooms. The people from the village went back to bring his wife and sent him to Namkham Hospital,” a local man told the Ta’ang 

The landmine severed U Htun Hla’s right leg and injured his body, and he is still receiving medical treatment.

On May 15, a 40-year-old man from Tongkhan Village, Muse Township, was killed on the spot after stepping on a landmine while herding cattle.
