September 26, 2025

A child clearing the compound in Nawngkhio Township, an area recently seized by the Terror Military Council, was severely injured when he stepped on what is believed to be a homemade landmine.

The incident occurred at around 11:30 a.m. on September 15. The landmine blast injured the child’s left eye and both of his hands.

The father of the injured boy, Maung Nyein Chan Thu, said, “We haven’t been home for a long time, and the fences were messy, so we went home and cleaned the fence. He was hit by a landmine. Both his hands were injured. His left eye was also hit. He lost two fingers on the left hand and three fingers on the right. He is still receiving treatment for the eye, but he can’t see clearly. His vision is cloudy; it’s blurry. He will have to undergo treatment for a long time. The mine is not big; it’s not even the size of a teacup. It’s only the size of a small makeup box with a yellow arrow on it.”

The injured child, 15-year-old Maung Nyein Chan Thu, is a native of Narr Shee Village, Taung Shay Group, NawngkhioTownship.

He is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital. His family told TWO that they are struggling financially to pay for his medical care.
