Four Naung Lin Village Residents Injured Seriously Due to Landmine, Hard to Cover Medical Expenses

Four local men were seriously injured after stepping on a landmine in Naung Lin village, Nyan Taw group, Nawngkhio township, which has been retaken from the Terror Military Council, and medical expenses are difficult to cover, according to family members.
In the incident, at around 1 pm on September 28, 29-year-old Ko Thet Naing Htwe, a resident of Naung Lin village, was cleaning his yard when he stepped on a landmine.
A relative said, “He was cleaning his yard when he hit it while he was carrying his basket. Both my legs were injured. His left leg was cut in half. His left hand was also injured. His hand had many holes. They are struggling to make a living. His wife has only had a baby for 6 days. The rest of the family is elderly and haschildren, so it’s not easy.”
In a similar incident, on September 8, at around 12:30 p.m., U Ba Maung, a 69-year-old man who was picking corn in his yard in Naung Lin village, also stepped on a landmine.
U Ba Maung’s son told TWO, “My father was picking corn in his yard when he stepped on a mine. It was a large round mine. It severed his right leg, his left ankle, and his right eye and right hand.”

Most of the Nawngkhio residents who were hit by the mines were displaced people who fled to other areas during the fighting in 2024. They were unable to plant crops in time for the rainy season, so they are currently struggling to make their basic needs and have to borrow money from relatives for medical treatment, the locals told TWO.
In addition, on September 7, at 12 noon, two men from Naung Lin village were seriously injured when they stepped on a landmine while volunteering to clean the village school.
37-year-old U Zaw Htwe Oo also lost an eye and had his right leg amputated, and his chest and face were badly injured, according to his wife.
Another 25-year-old Maung Win Ko Oo was seriously injured all over his body, according to the victim.
“We were volunteering to clean the school when a villager stepped on the mine first. He was seriously injured. The landmine hit me in the groin, stomach, legs, chest, eyebrows and ears.”
According to the report received by the Ta’ang Women’s Organization, in Naung Lin village, Nyan Taw group, four local men were injured by landmines in September. They are still receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital and Nawngkhio Hospital and need assistance for medical expenses.
On the same day, September 13, a man living in Magyi Yay Village, Nawngkhio Township, was on his way to the cornfield to pick up corn when he stepped on a landmine on the road, injuring his thigh, arm, and his left leg had to be amputated, according to a relative of the victim.
