Four Females, Including a Child, Injured in Nawnghkio Landmine Explosion While Cutting Sugarcane
Four females, including an 8-year-old child, sustained injuries in a landmine explosion while harvesting sugarcane in the eastern part of Kon San Village, Nawnghkio Township, northern Shan State.
The incident occurred yesterday, February 12, 2026, at approximately 8:00 AM. The victims were identified as 43-year-old Ma San Po, 27-year-old Ma San Nyo, 33-year-old Ma Aye Aye Aung, and her 8-year-old daughter, Ma Yoon Waddy, all residents of Konesan Village.
Ma San Po, one of the injured, told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO), “I recently moved back to Nawnghkio from Mandalay because it became difficult to live there after my husband was conscripted into the army. We were harvesting in our own sugarcane field, about two miles from the village, when the mine exploded.”
Another survivor said, “There were nine people in the field at the time of the incident. I don’t know who hit the landmine. While four individuals were directly affected by the blast, only one required urgent hospitalization due to the severity of her injuries, while the others received treatment for less critical wounds.”
Regarding the injuries: Ma San Nyo suffered a fractured right leg. Ma San Po sustained injuries to her left leg and above her eye.Ma Aye Aye Aung received minor shrapnel wounds to the back of her head, right thigh, and behind her left ear.Ma Yoon Waddy (8 years old) suffered minor injuries to her left heel and right ear.
Local sources noted that the area where the explosion occurred had previously seen movements and presence of the Danu People’s Liberation Army (DPLA) and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (PSLF/TNLA).
