Two Women Severely Injured in Separate Landmine Explosions in Nawngkhio, Facing Financial Hardship for Medical Treatment

Two local women were severely injured in separate landmine explosions in Terror Military Council-controlled Nawngkhio Township, northern Shan State, and are currently in urgent need of financial assistance for their medical treatment, according to local sources.

In the first incident, a landmine exploded inside a residential compound on the morning of March 28 at around 10:30 AM.

“She stepped on the mine inside her own yard while going to relieve herself,” a resident, Ko Maung Maung, reported. “Her left foot was severed, her right leg sustained severe injuries, and her right hand suffered lacerations.”

The victim was identified as 40-year-old Daw Yin Pyone from Naung Lin Village. She is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital, where her family is struggling to cover medical costs.

In a similar incident on March 13 at around 11:00 AM, another woman from Taung Shey Village stepped on a landmine while working in a nearby field.

“She was injured on a farm near the village while cutting sugarcane,” a resident said. “The sugarcane field is right on the edge of the village, not far at all. Her left leg was severed, and her right leg was severely injured.”

The victim, 58-year-old Daw Nyein Swe, is also receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital and facing financial difficulties in paying for her medical care.
