Farmer Facing Amputation Needs Financial Assistance After Landmine Blast in Nawnghkio
A 57-year-old farmer in northern Shan State’s Nawnghkio Township required a leg amputation after stepping on a landmine while clearing his farmland, local sources said.
The incident occurred at around 3:00 p.m. on May 24 near Long Yon Village, located north of the junta’s Light Infantry Battalion (LIB) 115 base in Nawnghkio Township. The victim, identified as U Aik Saw, was clearing his field to plant paddy when he triggered the landmine.
“He was in the middle of clearing his land to sow paddy for the upcoming season,” a local woman told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO). “The blast severed his leg, and doctors had to amputate it.”

U Aik Saw is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin General Hospital. Relatives noted that the family is facing severe financial hardship and urgently requires financial assistance to cover mounting medical expenses.
