A man from Loi Sai Village, Inmain Village Track, Kutkai Township, Northern Shan State, stepped on a landmine and lost one of his legs.
He stepped on the landmine above his house while herding buffalo around 3:00 p.m. on October 3.
Mai Aik Nyoe, the victim’s brother, said, “He was herding buffalo above our house. The place was where the military council troops were previously stationed. No one dared to approach him right after he stepped on the landmine. People dared to go and check only after one hour. One leg had to be amputated, and we’re not sure what to do with the other leg since the bones were crushed. His fingers were also wounded.”
Three fingers of Mai Aik Kyaing cut off and his right leg amputated, and the left leg might be amputated, too as the bones were crashed. He is currently receiving medical treatment at Nam Kham Hospital.
The landmine victim, 25-year-old Mai Aik Kyaing, is a father of three children, and his wife is currently pregnant. The family is now left without anyone to support them financially, making their situation extremely difficult. His younger brother, Mai Aik Nyoe, expressed their need for help.
