Man Injured by Landmine While Clearing Yard in Nawngkhio

A local man suffered injuries to both legs after being hit by a landmine while clearing a yard in Kyauk Kyan Village, Nawngkhio Township, Northern Shan State.

The incident occurred at 11 a.m. on September 12, while the victim was working.

The victim shared details of the incident and his injuries: “I was clearing a yard when I hit it. I had been spraying herbicide there. I stepped on the landmine when I was clearing the yard by cutting down large trees. My left calf has holes, and the bone is bandaged at the site of the fracture. My right leg, specifically the thigh, was also hit. I have had to undergo surgery twice. The first time, the mine fragment in my thigh could not be located. The second time, after another X-ray was taken, it was found again, and I went back to the operating room. The shape of the object was like a landminewith a sting,” he stated.

The victim, identified as 43-year-old U Aung Zaw Myint, is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital and will require further surgery. He is now seeking assistance for his medical expenses.
