A Man Clearing Weeds in a Sugarcane Plantation at NawngkhioSeverely Injured by a Landmine

A local man in Nawngkhio Township, Northern Shan State—an area recently retaken by the Terror MilitaryCouncil—sustained life-altering injuries to both legs after stepping on a landmine.

The victim, 43-year-old U Zaw Lin Htun (also identified as Ko Zaw Lin U), was clearing a sugarcane field at approximately 9:00 a.m. on January 15 when the explosion occurred.

“He was working in the sugarcane field when he triggered the mine,” a family member recounted. “The blast caused severe injuries to both legs. His right foot was completely severed, and doctors have since had to perform an amputation near the ankle. He also sustained injuries to his left hand and foot.”

The mine victim is 43-Years old U Zaw Lin Htun, living at Naung Lin Village, Nyantaw village tract. 

Due to his family’s severe financial hardship and the high cost of medical care, they are struggling to cover his expenses. He is currently undergoing treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital.
