On October 18, at 5:00 PM, a man in Naung Pyit village, Ping Pao village tract, Kyaukme Township, stepped on a landmine in his own yard and lost his right leg.

The victim was identified as 44-year-old Sai Kyaw Thein. A woman told the Ta’ang Women’s Organization (TWO) that the man stepped on the landmine on the day his family returned home after fleeing the conflict.

“Since the fighting broke out, he had been sleeping on the farm. We were planning to return and stay at home, but on the day we came back, he stepped on a landmine. It wasn’t inside the house; it was in the yard. He has now been discharged from the hospital, though he has to return for follow-up appointments regarding his injuries. His right leg was amputated above the knee,” she said.

Naung Pyit village is an area where the TNLA (Ta’ang National Liberation Army) and the SSPP (Shan State Progress Party) operate, and it is also a location where the TNLA and the Terror Military Council troops have been fighting.
