A Local Man Loses Leg After Stepping On Landmine In Nawngkhio 

A local man lost his leg after stepping on a landmine in Nawngkhio Township, an area recently retaken by the TerrorMilitary Council, according to a local resident.

The incident occurred at 11:00 AM on April 16. The victim was harvesting sugarcane in a field when the mine exploded, causing serious injuries.

“He was cutting sugarcane when he triggered the mine. The mine was at the sugarcane plantation. The plantation site was located close to the village. The blast severed his left leg at the ankle, though the rest of his body remained unharmed,” said U Tin Hlaing, who was familiar with the situation.

The victim has been identified as Ko Kyaw Ye Lwin, 33, from Myet Khinn Nu village. He is currently receiving treatment at Pyin Oo Lwin Hospital and requires financial assistance for his medical expenses.

Nawngkhio Township has seen heavy fighting between the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) and the TerrorMilitary Council during the second phase of Operation 1027. It remains a high-risk area where locals frequently fall victim to landmines.
