A 11-year-old Child, Injured by a Landmine in Hsipaw Needs Help for Medical Expenses 

A child who was collecting firewood in Ward 2 of Tongsint Village, Hsipaw Township, in Northern Shan State, controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), stepped on a landmine and lost one of his legs.

In the incident, at around 8:00 AM on February 11 when 11-year-old child, Sai Lao Kham was collecting firewood near the former military base of Infantry battalion (IB-23) of the Terror Myanmar Council Forces, when he stepped on a landmine.

“He was collecting firewood in the former military base when he stepped on a landmine,” said Sai Lao Kham’s mother. “He lost his right legs, and the bone in his right leg was exposed. His left foot was also injured. He is currently receiving treatment in the hospital. He needs help for medical expenses.” 

The locals in Hsipaw are urging the relevant authorities to clear the mines as there have been several incidents of landmine injuries in Hsipaw Township. 

According to the records collected by the Ta’ang Women’s Organization, in February alone, the total of 12 people were affected by landmine explosions and remnants of war, including 4 fatalities (2 of them children) and 8 injured (3 of them children).
