One Local Dies For Lack Of Medical Treatment As Two Residents Injured During the Namhpatkar Battle

Two local residents were injured when they were hit by heavy weapons during the fighting between the Terror Military Council and the Kachin Independence Army (KIO/KIA) in the seizing battle of the  Infantry Battalion 123 in Nanhpatkar village, Kutkai Township, Northern Shan State.

The Terror Military Council dropped a bomb from an airplane around 8:00 PM on the evening of December 29, 2023, injuring 30-year-old resident U Aik Lwin in Ward (4), Aungthapyay Ward of Namhpatkar, and another elderly woman was also injured by explosion of heavy weaponry shells in Aemkhum Village.

U Aik Lwin’s wife said, “Around 8 o’clock in the evening, the bombs dropped twice. The first time it didn’t hit him, but the second time it did when he was trying to close the door. The door wasn’t even properly closed, and our house was also damaged.”

Although the wounded Aik Lwin only suffered minor injuries, he was unable to get to a hospital or clinic during the fighting, resulting in excessive blood loss and eventual death, his wife continued.

She said, “The wound was on his chest, near the heart, and where he was hit became a hole. If there had been a clinic to seek medical help, he might still be alive. Because the fighting prevented him from going to the hospital, and that’s how he died.”

In addition, a 70-year-old resident, Yar Ei Man from Aemkhum Village was also hit in the head by a sharpener from heavy weapons and had to get treatment at the clinic for more than ten days.

A local resident said, “Grandma was inside the house, and the weapons fell into the house below, injuring grandma’s head. She has been receiving treatment at Mongyu for more than ten days.”

The Ta’ang Women’s Organization has documented during on-site data collection that Namhpatkar Village is one of the most severely affected villages by the fighting between the Terror Military Council and the Kachin Independence Army, and injured residents are unable to receive medical treatment.
